Aside from performing research projects, BRIO has also developed this website as a virtual information and documentation centre, a central hub for scientific research, policy information, publications and statistics regarding Brussels. The BRIO database function helps you filter through the abundance of data to locate the most relevant source of information. This database provides an overview of all scientific data on Brussels: research publications and analyses, but also internal research reports and theses, primary sources and statistics.The BRIO Search function provides quick and easy access to this wealth of information. If a digital version of the document is available, you can download it immediately – in other cases, an external link leads to further information. The BRIO base the données is, in other words, both a bibliography and a virtual library for Brussels.

Cooperative Research
From the very beginning, the research group prioritised a multidisciplinary approach and networking with national and international researchers and teams. BRIO cooperates with the Urban Studies Network (USN, previously Stadsplatform) and the Brussels Studies Institute (BSI) and participates in many other network.
Origin
BRIO was established in May 2005 with the support of the Flemish Government and in cooperation with the Flemish Community Commission as a consortium of research groups from Flemish university associations in Brussels.The Centre for the Interdisciplinary Study of Brussels of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the Study Centre for Enterprise of the HUBrussels were the basis for this initiative. Drawing from this academic heritage, BRIO today represents over 30 years of scientific research on Brussels.
